AXS: Avenged Sevenfold's 5 best lyrics

AXS shared their best 5 Avenged Sevenfold lyrics and give their take on what they mean:

5. “Bat Country” (2005): “Can’t you help me as I’m starting to burn (all alone)/Too many doses and I’m starting to get an attraction./My confidence is leaving me on my own (all alone)/No one can save me, and you know I don’t want the attention”

This verse speaks of the loneliness that many people feel in the world of their making. The singer seems to be accepting of the fate that his decisions have made for him, and he feels alone but unable to reach out for help or the attention that asking for help would draw to his failure.

4. “Unholy Confessions” (2003): “I know it’s hurting you, but it’s killing me.”

This closing line from the song drives home the point that the song makes about deception. Deception can be the thing that kills relationships and friendships, and even a little white lie can become something much greater to the one being deceived.

3. “So Far Away” (2010): “Now and then I try to find/A place in my mind/Where you can stay/You can stay away forever”

These lyrics are another stunning look into the afterlife, at least of a relationship if not of life, as the singer tries to put the loss of a loved one behind him. While memories are precious, sometimes forgetting is more forgiving and allows the person to move on with life. After losing the loved one, the singer is just looking to lock the memories away in his mind so that he can find the courage to carry on.

2. “Afterlife” (2007): “This place is full of peace and light, and I’d hope you might/Take me back inside when the time is right.”

The lyrics to this song, and these couple lines in particular, are strangely touching for a metal song as the singer has entered the afterlife too soon and must return to the struggles of living while forever having to dream of one day being taken back into the brightness of the afterlife when the time is right.

1. “Nightmare” (2010): “So stand in line while/They ink numbers in your head/You’re not a slave/Until the end of time here”

More dark lyrics about the price of sin and evil as the singer lined up to be counted and queued based upon the misdeeds in his life. These are my favorite lyrics from my favorite Avenged Sevenfold song as the imagery in these lines is second to none.
