The whims of the music world are constantly changing and leaving bands behind. It can be difficult for a band to stay relevant and many bands turn to publicity stunts to stay in the public’s eye. Avenged Sevenfold has taken a different path to stardom. The band formed in 1999 and yet it seems like a throwback to the 1970s and 1980s in its approach to music. With a focus on old school hard rock/heavy metal and a cultivation of a larger-than-life image, the band sets itself apart from the pack just by existing. 10. “This Means War”
The song is from the 2013 album Hail to the King and reached the number four spot on the Billboard US Mainstream Rock chart. The song drew criticism from some since it is stylistically similar to the 1993 hit “Sad But True” by Metallica.
